Owner and operator Stephen started his automotive repair Business career on the 3rd of September, 1990, in a small, two bay BP workshop at 272 Onewa Road, Westbridge Auto Services.
After 10 months Stephen out grew this location and relocated to BP Workshop at 67 Onewa Road with twice the workshop space. Onewa Auto Services.
After 10 years of learning the ins and outs of the business, Stephen felt he had gathered enough experience, and relocated the workshop – now known as Sunnybrae Auto Services.
Stephen and his team are general mechanics who work on a variety of makes and models. During Stephen’s Mechanical career of 42 years (and counting!) he has had dealership training in Mitsubishi, Mazda, Hyundai and Subaru. His mechanic, (and brother in-law) Mike, has dealership training in European vehicles, so the team can cover most jobs.
Often you will find Stephen out supporting local events in his 1930 Model A Ford. Stephen has been involved with the North Island Model A Ford Club for almost 30 years, including 15 years as committee member and holding positions as Vice-Captain, Treasurer and recently, Club Captain.
Stephen’s passion for motor vehicles is wider than just repairing and servicing the motoring needs of his local area. Two of Stephens’s sons have careers in the mechanical industry.
Stephen is a small business operator helping the local community with their mechanical needs, a lot of his work being referred from satisfied customers. Stephen prides himself and his business on helping his customers. Many customers are loyal to the business, including two families who Stephen has looked after with mechanical needs since he started out as an apprentice, 42 years ago!
Sunnybrae Autos has been a member of the Motor Trade Association (MTA) for approximately 25 years, and has been a finalist in the MTA Awards. Stephen has assisted with the Gateway Program helping secondary school students find their pathway to an automotive career, as a way to give back to the community he loves and to share his love of mechanical work and motor vehicles with the next generation.
